The Scoop: This is true craft at its finest -- and it’s this weekend only. The largest jury-reviewed show in the Southeast, The American Craft Council, brings hundreds of the nation’s premier artists and crafters to the Cobb Galleria Centre Friday through Sunday: handmade jewelry, clothing, furniture, toys, home accessories, sculptural and functional works of glass, ceramics, and decorative fibers... not to mention a proud showing of many Atlanta artists. Scoutmob gets you in the door for a one-day half-price ticket (excludes Friday night event).

Scout Notes: Seriously, if you’re one to swoon over unique handmade ANYTHING (jewelry, furniture, clothes, you name it) or if you’re just looking for something different to do this weekend -- pencil in the American Craft Show as part of your  plans. With too many sculptors, crafters, builders, and artists to mention here, we figured we’d just introduce you to a handful of local artists you might fall in love with this weekend.

Meet Laura Martin of Ties That Matter. Their little fundraising project started with 1,500 ties and, within a year, has become a line of unique accessories that inspires the community. Laura, her daughter, and their business partner Elizabeth are providing crucial jobs to the city’s refugees, immigrants, and homeless who help sew the purses, travel and messenger bags, pillows and yoga mat carriers for TTM. I met Laura in their backyard Buckhead studio (pictured above), where Laura was just putting some finishing touches on a few of the unique pieces they'll feature this weekend. Stop by her booth at the show and check out these crafts with a cause and learn more here: tiesthatmatter.net

Tania Julian of Decatur will bring her sensuous ceramics and wall installations to the show this weekend. She’s been in Atlanta since 1996, a native of Mainz, Germany, and practiced Interior Design until 2004. With her current work, she explores the psychology of space, which has a profound influence on her art.  Get a preview here: taniajulian.com

Also based in Atlanta is Houston Llew and his “Spiritiles” - molten glass and copper creations featuring vivid imagery and evocative quotations that ''capture the spirit of the enlightened moment.''

Barry Rhodes of Decatur lives a fascinating double-life. By day, he’s a computer scientist at the CDC; in his free time, his passion lies in pottery and sculpture. He recreates the unique allure of the building facades of downtown Decatur’s mills and storefronts in much of his work. See the details here: rhodespottery.com.

Finally, Katie Aldrich is a young Atlantan who makes hip and edgy pillows inspired by urban graffiti and modern culture. Katie's pillows are sure to bring some youthful vitality to Atlanta's American Craft Council show, among many other young designers. See her etsy shop here.

As for the rest, you’ll have to see for yourself this weekend. Be sure to give some local love to our inspiring Atlanta artists... and fashion yourself a unique experience when you head to the American Craft Show.
